Rampant Poppies 6-0 winners away to Vauxhall Motors

Kettering Town manager Mark Cooper made two changes to last Saturday's starting lineup, with Jon Brady and Tommy Jaszczun replacing David Bridges and Luke Graham. The attacking trio of Chris Beardsley, Jean-Paul Marna and Craig Westcarr again start up front hoping to rekindle their scoring firepower against hosts Vauxhall Motors at Rivacre Park.

A good start by Kettering who look to be having the better of the early exchanges and could have taken the lead from a Westcarr cross but no one was able to latch onto the ball and finish the move started by Brady. First Beardsley then Marna put pressure on the home goal but so far Murphy manages to somehow deny Kettering the opening goal.

It appeared only a matter of time before Kettering broke the deadlock and it came on 22 minutes when Chris Beardsley pounced on a save by Murphy from Westcarr to make it 1-0. The celebrations of the Poppies traveling support had hardly subsided when Beardsley turned provider and Jon Brady blasted home to make it 2-0 to Kettering on 28 minutes.

Heading up to the half-time break and the home side try to get back into the match but Harper is alert to keep the Poppies 2-goal lead intact. Kettering break fast and Beardsley again lays on a ball into the box and Craig Westcarr turns sharply and fires his side into a 3-0 lead with 5 minutes to go to half-time.

Half-time: Vauxhall Motors 0 Kettering Town 3

The second period is barely underway before Vauxhall are reduced to 10 men following a nasty challenge on Eaden which earns Mark Maddox a red card and an early shower. Worse is to come for the Motormen as Brett Solkhon makes it 4-0 to Kettering and the Poppies are now home and dry in this match. No let up from Kettering and Jean-Paul Marna scores to make it 5-0 shortly after the hour mark and at this rate we could easily see a repeat of the 6-0 win at the A-Line earlier in the season.

Mark Cooper swaps out Tom Kemp for Nicky Eaden midway through the second period. The match tempo has perhaps understandably dropped right off and with 15 minutes left Cooper will likely make more substitutions. Sixty seconds later Andy Hall emerges from the dugout to replace the lively Marna.

With ten minutes left to play, a repeat of the earlier score is indeed achieved when Craig Westcarr turns in a shot from Brett Solkhon to make it 6-0 to Kettering. Cooper makes his final substitution as Luke Graham comes on for John Dempster with 5 minutes left. Andy Hall fires high over the crossbar as the match comes to a conclusion and Kettering run out solid 6-0 winners.

With news filtering in of wins for AFC Telford Utd and Harrogate Town, it looks like not much has changed at the top of the BSN table, the main plus point from today is that Kettering appeared to have rediscovered their goalscoring touch, just in time for the run-in.
