Kettering Town welcomed long-time rivals Boston Utd to the A-Line Arena for the Setanta Shield Second Round for a match that was being broadcast live on Setanta TV. The tie had to be decided on the night with extra-time and penalties if needed.

The home side were off to a good start and having the lion's share of the early exchanges but still lacking the finishing touch in front of goal that has produced some fairly inconsistent results during their recent run of matches.

Poppies sign midfielder Mills

Kettering Town manager Mark Cooper has added ex-Tamworth midfielder Gary Mills to the squad and the former Lambs player looks set to make his debut on Monday night against Boston Utd in the Setanta Shield competition at the A-Line Arena.

Kettering's early exit from the FA Cup leaves them with a weekend off before they host the Pilgrins on Monday night in the newly sponsored knockout competition that must produce a result on the night, meaning they could go to extra-time and penalties if necessary.

The Poppies next BSN fixture is at home to Blyth Spartans next Saturday, 3rd November 2007.

Poppies back to 2nd spot with 2-0 win at home to Redditch Utd

After a surging start to the new season and seven wins in-a-row, Kettering are stuttering at the moment with just one win in their last five league outings and in the process have slipped from first to third spot in the BSN table. Kettering host Redditch Utd, a side they have already beaten 3-1 at home in the FA Cup, but since that win the Poppies have lost twice and drawn the other match in a dramatic reversal of their early season form.

Kettering got off to a great start when Mark Rawle put them 1-0 on 11 minutes and the home side continued to work hard during the first 45 minutes with the defence playing well, but the Poppies couldn't add to their slender advantage by the end of the first-half and there was still plenty of work to be done.

Poppies pegged back at Nuneaton Borough

Poppies boss Mark Cooper handed a starting role to new signing, defender Nicky Eaden, in Kettering's first visit to Nuneaton Borough's Liberty Way. The 34 year-old Eaden is a vastly experienced league player who started his career at Barnsley, before eventually joining Birmingham City and thereafter followed spells at Wigan, Nottingham Forest and Lincoln City.

Neither side able to make that vital breakthrough in the early stages of an edgy encounter that is effectively a local derby between these two bitter rivals and the longer it goes on the more it looks like a single goal will win this one. Lots of action but mostly between the penalty areas, although Mark Rawle possibly with the best chance when he went through one-on-one but couldn't break the deadlock.

Kettering continued to push further forward with half-time approaching fast, but the home defence continued to work hard to deny their visitors any space and despite the lion's share of possession the Poppies couldn't break them down and the first 45 minute period ended goaless.

Cooper ready to ring the changes at Kettering

Poppies boss Mark Cooper could be getting ready to ring the changes at Kettering Town with three players on the move and several new signings possibly joining the club within the near future.

Darren Caskey and Kevin Spencer have both gone on a three-month loan deal at Halesowen Town, while David Theobald has left the club. Cooper is also in talks with a view to bringing in some fresh faces at the A-Line Arena to revitalise the Poppies after recent results have fallen flat.

Kettering Town host fellow BSN outfit Solihull Moors in the 3rd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup at the A-Line Arena. The FA Cup tie was switched to a 1pm kick-off to avoid clashing with England's Euro 2008 qualifier against Estonia at the newly opened Wembley Stadium.

A fairly quiet opening period with Kettering settling into the match slightly quicker as both Mark Rawle and Craig Westcarr had early chances to open the scoring for Poppies but after 15 minutes it remained goaless.

No sign of any goals after 30 minutes gone and the fans were still waiting for the spark that would ignite the match. One booking apiece with Brett Solkhon in the notebook for Kettering. A scramble in the Poppies goalmouth led to the ball finally ending in the back of the net and the visitors took a 1-0 lead going into half-time through Jason Moore.

Poppies lose 2-0 at home to Hyde Utd - drop to second spot

Following the brief distraction of the FA Cup last weekend, Kettering Town hosted their third home fixture in-a-row, with 4th-placed Hyde Utd the visitors to the A-Line Arena. Poppies boss Mark Cooper was able to name the same starting lineup and bench from last Saturday's cup tie.

A fairly quiet start with the two teams evenly matched in the early stages and neither able to make the decisive breakthrough midway into the first period. A close call for Poppies saw Seddon come close for Hyde but the score remained 0-0 after 25 minutes gone.

Jean-Paul Marna broke through but his inviting cross went untouched by the advancing Kettering attack and Steve Burton had a half-chance to put the home side in front with 5 minutes left to the half-time break but despite both teams putting in plenty of effort the score remained 0-0.

Poppies at home to Solihull Moors in 3rd Qual Rnd of FA Cup

FACup200708.jpg

Today's FA Cup draw proved again to be somewhat of an anti-climax as Kettering were paired against yet another BSN outfit, this time it was Solihull Moors. Solihull Moors

At least their luck held and the Poppies were first out of the hat of the two teams and therefore the tie will be held at the A-Line Arena on Saturday 13th October, 2007.
