It’s the 3rd qualifying round of the FA Cup for Kettering Town this Saturday as they host Hednesford Town at Latimer Park. The Poppies will of course be looking to progress and in the process add to their leading all-time FA Cup goal tally.

Goal!GOAL: The match gets underway at Latimer Park as Richens heads just wide of the upright from a Milnes free-kick. Kettering clear a corner, break fast into the visitors half, Meikle is fouled in the area, the referee points to the penalty spot. Brett Solkhon steps up and Kettering take a 1-0 lead.

Paul White makes another save as the visitors try to quickly respond to going behind, but Kettering looking dangerous in attack and Milnes forces a good save by the keeper. The Pitmen are pressing with another corner but the Poppies are holding them off and protecting their slender lead heading towards the break.

Goal!GOAL: Kettering on the attack as Rhys Hoenes collects the ball, runs into the box where he’s brought down and again the referee has no hesitation and points to the penalty spot. Brett Solkhon steps up and finds the net as Kettering take a 2-0 lead with their second penalty of the tie.

Half-time:   Kettering Town 2   Hednesford Town 0

The second-half gets underway at Latimer Park with Kettering two goals in front thanks to two penalties from Brett Solkhon. Kettering’s defence having been looking a lot more solid today than in recent games as they comfortably repulse another Hednesford corner. The visitors pushing forward to try and get back in this cup tie as they make a change shortly before the hour mark.

Hednesford still plugging away from the corners but again the home side are working hard to make sure they don’t allow them back into this cup tie. They’ve got at least 25 minutes to keep them out on a cold afternoon at Latimer Park. A superb double save from Poppies keeper Paul White preserves his side’s two-goal cushion. A swap in the 68th minute as Borg comes on to replace Milnes for Poppies.

Goal!GOAL: A one-two between Dion and Hoenes and as Dion collects the return pass he’s brought down in the box. A third penalty for Kettering and again its well dispatched by Brett Solkhon. That’s a hat-trick of penalties for Solkhon and Kettering lead 3-0, 15 minutes remaining.

White makes a save from a long range effort and then a cynical foul on Marcus Kelly sees the offender shown the yellow card. Kettering make another change on 80 minutes as the tireless Rhys Hoenes gets a deserved break and on comes Etse Hottor. Kettering are just easing into the 4th round now and swap out Durrell Berry to bring on Luke Graham for the final five minutes or so.

Goal!GOAL: Well it looks like the visitors had the wind knocked out of them after the third penalty and Lindon Meikle summons a burst of energy to sprint down the line and cross for substitute Andrea Borg to slot the pass home. It’s 4-0 to Kettering and they can look forward to a place in the 4th qualifying round of the FA Cup.

There goes the final whistle as the home fans celebrate a cup tie victory and another 4 goals to add to their all-time leaders tally. It’s been a solid display from Kettering in defence and a hat-trick of penalties from Brett Solkhon have done the damage to the Pitmen at a chilly Latimer Park this afternoon. It’s back to the bread and butter of the league next Saturday away to St Neots Town.
