Following the setback of their first defeat of the new season, Kettering Town will be looking to bounce back strongly away to St Ives Town on Tuesday night. The Ives have only won once so far this season, ironically it was against Saturday’s conquerors Weymouth on the opening day.

Goal!GOAL: We’re less than a minute in and Kettering caught napping. White is beaten by Danny Kelly and it’s 1-0 to St Ives before the fans have even settled into their seats. Not exactly the best of starts for the Poppies, let’s see how they respond to this early setback.

Goal!GOAL: The answer is not long in coming. The best possible response comes from Kettering as they hit straight back with Ben Milnes supplying the finishing touch to make it 1-1 with 2 minutes gone. Game on!

Goal!GOAL: Less than 10 minutes into the first period and Kettering take the lead after trailing 1-0 within a minute. It’s Brett Solkhon who puts his side in front and the Poppies travelling support are enjoying this one after a rocky start.

A dramatic opening period at St Ives with the home side drawing first blood, but Kettering hitting back to lead 2-1 heading into the break. The home side almost pulled back level but a close range effort is just wide of the target. That should really have been put in the net and Kettering have a rather lucky escape.

Half-time:   St Ives Town 1   Kettering Town 2

Goal!GOAL: It’s another lively start to the second half with half-chances at either end. Kettering get a corner and as the ball is swung over it’s met by Michael Richens and the Poppies midfielder beats Goff to score his first League goal for the Poppies.

Goal!GOAL: Well, well. As dangerous as they are going forward, they are as vulnerable at the back. Stevens appeals for a penalty are waved away and the home side break rapidly and the Poppies defence is again caught napping and White left exposed with Danny Kelly scoring. It’s 3-2 and Kettering know they have a game on their hands.

Goal!GOAL: Kettering make a changes as Sundire replaces Stevens. Poppies on the attack once more and the ball is played into birthday boy Brett Solkhon who scores his second and Kettering’s 4th to make it 4-2. It may not be exactly good defending by either side but it does make for plenty of goal action!

Goal!GOAL: Oh dear. As if to emphasise an earlier observation, Kettering’s defence is all at sea yet again and the Saints have reduced the deficit back to a single goal with an easy cross and header past White. Danny Kelly scores his hat-trick. It’s raining goals and currently 4-3 to the Poppies but more could be on the cards the way both defences are leaking like sieves.

Milnes takes a knock and is replaced by Stohrer. Ex-Poppies favourites, Dubi Ogbonna and James Hall are introduced into the fray for the Saints. It could be a stirring finish to an already dramatic game so far. Jimmy Hartley’s introduction marks the final change for the Saints. The final whistle sounds as Kettering hold on for a narrow 4-3 win and claiming a vital way victory and 3pts.

A dreadful start and some really shoddy defending but in the end Kettering managed to out-score their opponents by the narrowest of margins to return to winnings ways in the league. Next up its a return to the Cup for the Poppies and a home tie against Kidsgrove Athletic on Saturday at Latimer Park.
