After three defeats in-a-row, Kettering Town are playing only for pride this Saturday as they host St Ives Town at Latimer Park. Their play-off hopes have faded quietly into the distance as their defensive frailties have let them down when it mattered most. Kettering won 7-0 in the corresponding fixture earlier in the season but Weir-Daley who scored 4 has since moved on.

The match gets underway at Latimer Park with both sides trying to settle early, corners at both ends but not good deliveries. The Poppies start to get a little more possession as Rene Howe plays in James Hall but his shot is blocked. More pressure from Kettering and Aaron O’Connor has a shot well saved. At the other end Gooch is called upon to make a fine save and then repeats the effort to keep his side from going behind.

An early change as Gary Mulligan is replaced by Lewis Hornby for Kettering on 32 minutes. The pendulum swings again as Hicks lines up Aaron O’Connor but his first time effort flies just wide of the upright. Brighton heads over as the ball is powered across the area and that brings the first-half action at Latimer Park to a close. Chances at both ends but still no goals.

Half-time:   Kettering Town 0   St Ives Town 0

Goal!GOAL: The second-half gets underway and the visitors come out of the blocks fastest as Bateman has to block a goal-bound effort. Kettering looking sluggish at the moment as St Ives apply some pressure. It pays off on 53 minutes when Ben Seymour-Shove outpaces the line and cuts inside to fire past the despairing Gooch and make it 1-0 to St Ives Town.

Bradshaw fires just wide as Kettering don’t seem to have come out of the dressing rooms yet from the break. A double change for Kettering as Jorrin Jon and Jack Kelly replace James Hall and James Harran on 62 minutes. Kettering come close to an equaliser as Rene Howe heads just wide. Another half-chance for Poppies as Hornby fires wide of the target with the home side pressing to get back on level terms and avoid a fourth defeat in-a-row.

Goal!GOAL: A corner for St Ives but the header from McDevitt is claimed well by Gooch in the Poppies goal. The goalscorer Ben Seymour-Shove is replaced by Jack Higgs for St Ives on 76 minutes. It’s quiet at Latimer Park as Kettering are struggling to up the tempo going into the final ten minutes or so. Finally the vital spark from the home side and Aaron O’Connor slots home after good work from Brighton, it’s 1-1.

St Ives make a switch as Kasey Douglas replaces Peter Clark on 88 minutes. Corner for Poppies but couldn’t get the much needed touch. Howe with a header in Kettering final flurry but is easily held by Trebles in the visitor’s goal. There goes the final whistle and at least Kettering managed to avoid yet another defeat but a lack-lustre showing did little to improve their standing.
