Struggling Poppies draw again at home to Frome TownSep 1st, 2012

Frome Town 1
Kettering Town host Frome Town on Saturday with John Beck’s side still looking for their first win after three draws and a defeat has seem them only reduce their 10pt starting deficit to -7pts and leaves them firmly adrift at the foot of the table.
A fairly lively affair that surprisingly only produced two goals, although the visitors had an effort ruled out and Warren Byerley missed a penalty which led to a frantic final few minutes when either side could have stolen all three points.
GOAL: Frome scored first when Perrot swung a ball across from out wide on the left and Lewis Powell met the ball firmly with his head to beat Laurie Walker in the Poppies goal and give the visitors the lead on 34 minutes.
GOAL: It only took Kettering three minutes to get back on level terms when a corner on 37 minutes was played in by Burns and headed in by Ben Gerring to make it 1-1 going into the break.

More poor finishing prevented a higher scoring match with a mix of desperate defending and spurning of chances from both teams in equal measure. Kettering’s best chance of the second-half came from the penalty spot as Griffith was brought down in the area and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the penalty spot. Unfortunately Warren Byerley didn’t convert as his weak effort was easily saved by Frome keeper Chitty.
Walker kept the score down at his end of the field while Chitty did the same at the other, although better finishing from both teams could have seen a clear winner or even perhaps a high-scoring draw. Kettering had the man advantage for the final ten minutes or so as Alex Lapham‘s rash challenge earned him a red card but the home side couldn’t make it pay dividends.
At the final whistle it was yet another draw for Kettering, their fourth in five matches and with their 10pt penalty still sees them 9pts adrift at the foot of the table. Ironically without the 10pt deduction the Poppies would be sitting in 16th spot, but the reality is that again it was a case of poor finishing as at least the chances were created in this match but just not converted as they should have been.
