Poppies run out comfortable winners at Cogenhoe Utd – preseason friendlyJul 19th, 2012
Cogenhoe Utd 0
Kettering Town 5
Kettering Town travel to nearby Compton Park to play Cogenhoe Utd in the second of their preseason friendlies with new manager John Beck again running the rule over several trialists as well as a couple of recent signings. The new season, which kicks-off on August 18th with an away fixture at Weymouth, is looming fast on the horizon for Beck to not only assemble a capable squad, but also get them playing together as a team.
A few more familiar faces in the first-half with Laurie Walker in goal, Phil Ifil, Oscar Radford in defence, Michael King in midfield and David Bridges pulling the strings from out wide as Kettering took a comfortable 4-0 lead into the break, all from trialists. Just one non-trialist, namely Michael King starting the second-half and he was replaced midway through the second period as Kettering scored after six minutes of the restart to make it 5-0. With all the changes it was understandably not as fluent or organised in the second-half as it was in the first 45 minutes but Kettering kept a clean sheet and ran out comfortable winners in their first away friendly of the season.
