After safely negotiating through their Cup tie, it’s back to the main task of the league for a Kettering Town side hoping to continue their winning start to the new season as they travel to the South coast to take on Weymouth. Their hosts have suffered just one defeat in their opening five fixtures, at home to St Ives Town, but they did win 5-0 away to Odd Town in the Cup last Saturday.

Goal!GOAL:The match gets underway, Kettering in their familiar blue ad white away kit and their hosts wearing claret and blue. The home side start bright and Buckley hits the post followed by a save by White from Thomson. Moments later are Kettering are in front. A low shot is deflected by Callum Buckley past his own keeper and into the net.

Goal!GOAL: The Terras rally after that unfortunate own-goal as Brooks effort is blocked by the Poppies defence. Two minutes later and its back on level terms as Brooks all too easily ghosts through the Poppies defence and plays in Thomson who slots past White to make it 1-1 on 28 minutes.

Goal!GOAL: Kettering were rocked back by that equaliser and their defence is all at sea as the home side piles on the pressure. This time it’s Jordan Rose that supplies the finishing touch from the pass supplied by Goodship and the Terras lead 2-1 after trailing barely ten minutes earlier.

Kettering need to regain their composure before they are staring their first defeat of the season in the face. Heading into the break the match has settled down a little after the flurry of goals midway through. Michael Richens is shown the yellow card on the stroke of half-time as Kettering are still not playing at their recent best and will be gald of their half-time cuppa.

Half-time:   Weymouth 2   Kettering Town 1

The second-half gets underway with the Poppies looking to quickly get back into this one and get back on level terms. Kettering foorced to make an early change on 52 minutes as James Brighton limps off and makes way for Liam Bateman. A second substitution minutes later as Rhys Hoenes goes off to be replaced by Matt Stevens on 56 minutes. Kettering looking to shake things up if they are to get anything pout of this one in the remaining half-hour.

That’s more like it for Kettering as Terras’ keeper Travers has to make a good save from a solid header that was heading for the top corner on 62 minutes Can Kettering build on that to get back on level terms. The Poppies game-fully plugging away but the home side always looking dangerous in attack. Time is starting to run out for Kettering to salvage at least a point out of this one.

Another chance goes begging for Kettering as Ben Milnes heads wide at the back post under little pressure, should have done better, but at least encouraging as the match heads into the final twenty minutes. At the other end White makes a crucial save from a strike by Wakefield to keep his team in with a chance. Terras make a change as Josh Wakefield makes way for Charlie Davis on 76 minutes.

Yet another chance for Kettering, this time a header by Rene Howe is just wide of the upright as Kettering beginning to show evidence of their recent good form and press for the equaliser. Perhaps arguably the Poppies really should’ve been level by now but the normally clinical finishing is currently eluding them. Time running out for Kettering as Aaron Rodrigguez replaces Brandon Goodship for Weymouth on 81 minutes.

Goal!GOAL: It looks like Weymouth are going to make Kettering pay dearly for their lack of finishing prowess today as Harry Bakernets their third goal to give them a 3-1 lead on 83 minutes. It also looks increasingly like Kettering are heading for their first defeat of the season.

Durrell Berry is replaced by Gary Stohrer as Kettering having to push more men forward now with barely six minutes remaining to score twice. Certainly a tall order on today’s showing. The match peters out as the final whistle sounds Kettering’s first defeat of the season. They didn’t get moving out of the blocks, despite going in front and had their chances before Weymouth doubled their lead. On to Tuesday and hopefully back to business as usual at St Ives Town.
