Farsley Celtic forced to fold

September 4, 2009—

Farsley Celtic

Farsley Celtic have closed their doors after the administrators were unable to find a buyer for the Blue Square North outfit. They went into administration at the start of the season to stave off their creditors and soon clawed back the automatic 10 point deduction, but without a viable buyer after a consortium withdrew their offer the club has been forced to fold.

The club tried to boost their finances with the sale of part of their Throstle's Nest ground, however they never received the full amount owed and at the start of the season were about to be denied Blue Square North status after owing HM Revenue & Customs £200,000 in taxes.

Supporters Club spokesman Phil Morris told BBC Radio Leeds the loss of the club would leave a big hole in the local community. "We're all a little bit stunned at the speed at which this has happened," he said.
