Salisbury City enter administration, Lewes earn reprieve

September 3, 2009—

Salisbury City

Salisbury City went into administration and were immediately hit with the standard 10-point deduction. Apparently they owe the HM Revenue & Customs, who have brought a winding-up petition against the club, around £200000.

The administrators are in the process of trying to find potential buyers for the club and are confident they will find a suitable buyer. The administration protects the club from their creditors, but the 10-point deduction means that Salisbury are now second-from-bottom, ironically only above Chester City who had a 25-point deduction against them at the start of the season.

Lewes escaped going into administration (and the 10-point penalty that would have resulted) by paying off some of the debt they owed HM Revenue & Customs, and were granted an injuction by the High Court.

The club have already paid back £30,000 of the £110,000 owed and were told on Wednesday they have three months to pay back a further £30,000. In the meantime Lewes will continue negotiations with HMRC about paying the remaining £50,000.
