Cooper sacked from Posh after just three months in charge

February 1, 2010—

Former Kettering Town manager Mark Cooper has been sacked as manager of Peterborough Utd following a thirteen match run which consisted of just one win, four draws and eight defeats. When Cooper left the Poppies to take over at the Posh they were bottom of the Championship and three months later they remain bottom and are six points adrift of the next club having played two more matches and currently 11 points adrift of safety.

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony has been under increasing pressure since Cooper took over and the writing was on the wall when he made the following comment on the club's official website: He said: "I have to apologise to all Posh fans for this season up until now. It's been nothing short of a disaster, I can understand their frustrations. I am done with defending the players, the previous management, current management and everyone else at the football club top to bottom."

Following Saturday's 2-0 defeat at fellow strugglers Crystal Palace, the club released the following statement: "After meeting with the manger, Peterborough United and Mark Cooper are parting company with immediate effect. The club would like to thank Mark for his professional and dedicated service during his time at London Road."
