New teams in the Conference Premier next season, Stevenage win Trophy

May 9, 2009—

The Blue Square North and South play-offs are all complete and the four teams coming up into the Conference Premier are now known. Tamworth were Blue Square North champions and are joined by Gateshead who saw off AFC Telford in the play-off final.

Telford struggled to produce much of note and it all fell apart for the Bucks Head outfit in the final ten minutes when Lee Vaughan was sent off and then Wayne Phillips scored to give Gateshead a narrow 1-0 victory.

AFC Wimbledon were the South champions and are joined by Hayes & Yeading courtesy of a Steve Gregory hat-trick in a 3-2 win.over Hampton & Richmond.

Stevenage Borough are the FA Trophy winners as consolation for missing out on a promotion spot after they beat York City 2-0 at Wembley. Steve Morison scored midway through the second period and Lee Boylan made it 2-0 in stoppage time to seal the win.

The two teams dropping out of the Football League into the Conference Premier next season are Chester City and Luton Town. They will be replaced by Burton Albion and the winner of the play-off final on Sunday May 17th which is between Cambridge City and Torquay Utd.
