Kettering started the match with striker Rene Howe partnering Craig Westcarr upfront following the departure yesterday of top scorer Zema Abbey. The home side got down to business straight away and took a 1-0 lead through Craig Westcarr. Shortly after the restart it was the Poppies who were on the attack again and soon increased their lead over their Unibond Division One visitors when Rene Howe made the most of his inclusion in the starting lineup to make it 2-0.
With only half-an-hour gone, there was no letup for Clitheroe as the home side kept pushing forward in search of more goals. The third came courtesy of another Rene Howe strike as Kettering went into a commanding 3-0 lead.
With half-time fast approaching, Rene Howe scored his hat-trick third goal and put Kettering into an even more commanding 4-0 lead at the break.
Even with the match already won, there was no letup in the second-half as Kettering continued to pour forward and demonstrate the clinical finishing that has conspicously been missing since the start of the season.
Further goals from Rene Howe(2), Andre Boucaud, Jean-Paul Marna(2) and Andy Hall rounded off a rampant display by the Poppies against their Unibond Division One opponents and a consolation goal from the visitors made the final scoreline an emphatic 10-1 victory.
