Late goals dump Poppies out of FA Trophy
Dagenham & Redbridge 2 Kettering Town 1
(FA Trophy 2nd Round)
Kettering Town manager Kevin Wilson made several changes to his starting line up for the trip to Conference National outfit Dagenham & Redbridge in the 2nd Round of the FA Troph with Matt Lewis, Neil Midgley and Ollie Burgess as the frontmen. Paterson and Moore start on the bench.
Kettering started well and were rewarded for their persistence on 19 minutes when Andy Hall crossed into the box for Ollie Burgess to shoot past Tony Roberts and put the Poppies 1-0 up. Kettering seemed buoyed up by taking the lead and continued to press but despite several chances were unable to increase their slender advantage going into the half-time break.
The second-half continued in the same fashion as the home side struggled to find a way through the Poppies rear-guard. All that changed however on 80 minutes when Mackail-Smith fired into the net from fully 25 yds to pull the Daggers back on level terms at 1-1.
It looked like the tie would go to a replay until with less than 3 minutes left, a cruel deflection off Craig McIlwain from an Anwar Uddin header went into the net and Kettering were out of the Trophy.
