Kettering Town Football Club was taken over today by a consortium headed by Imraan Ladak and Paul Gascoigne, ending all the rumours and speculation since talks began four weeks ago.

Paul GascoignePaul Gascoigne was officially announced as the new manager of the Poppies and the 38 year-old ex-England player commented; "It feels good, I'm excited. I know it's Kettering Town and it isn't Premiership football. But the plans we have worked on with (consortium leader) Imraan Ladak for the past six weeks have been exciting."

"They haven't been in the Football League in 133 years, so that will be one of the main objectives to get this team up there. That will be something for the supporters to look forward to," he said.

"I'm not going to say we'll do it this season or next season, there's a lot we can improve on, whether that's with the players we've got now or the players we bring in."

Poppies comfortably through to FA Cup 1st Round

(FA Cup 4Q Round)

Poppies boss Kevin Wilson, already without the suspended Christian Moore, was further hampered with the absence of Junior MacDougald (injured), Ollie Burgess (illness) and Hugh McAuley (cup-tied).

FA CupA slow start to the match with both sides settling into the action early. Jamie Paterson broke clear on ten minutes and his long range strike skimmed the top of the crossbar. Neil Midgley working hard in almost a lone striking role, latched on to a through ball and forced the Fleet keeper into a good stretching save on 28 minutes.

Saunders waltzed past two Poppies defenders only to lift his effort over the Kettering crossbar as the rain started to come down. Poppies continued to press forward and Jamie Gould's effort sailed just over the crossbar. An excellent save by Mark Osborn from Sodje's accurately-hit volley on 38 mins. The half-time whistle saw the cup-tie still deadlocked at 0-0.

A goaless first-45 minutes with neither side able to find a way past their opponents solid defensive line and the two sides trooped off to the dressing room still deadlocked at the break.

Gazza to take over the Poppies ?

It has been widely speculated in recent weeks that Kettering Town Football Club is about to be sold and the latest reports indicate that an announcement will be made by Poppies current chairman and owner Peter Mallinger to that effect.

Paul GascoigneThe buyer for the club is still uncertain but the very strongly favoured candidate to be the new owner is none other than ex-England professional footballer, Paul Gasacoigne.

Moore off - Poppies lose at Northwich

Northwich VictoriaNorthwich Victoria 3
Kettering Town 1

Kettering Town boss Kevin Wilson reverted to his more familiar 4-4-2 formation with Chris DiFante the unlucky one of the attacking trio, Ollie Burgess and James Gould returned to the starting lineup and Andy Hall started on the substitutes bench.

Wilson stated mid-week that his side would be going into the game with confidence, but it was the home side who struck the first blow, going 1-0 up after 15 minutes courtesy of a header from John Allan and the Vics held onto their narrow lead going into the half-time break.

If the first 45 minutes was relatively lively, the match certainly exploded into action just before the hour-mark when Poppies top scorer Christian Moore was sent-off. Reduced to ten-men, Kettering's chances of getting back on level terms looked bleak, but Ollie Burgess popped up to score on 69 minutes and take the match into the final quarter all-square at 1-1.
