Poppies struggle at Hornchurch
Hornchurch 1 Kettering Town 1
It took around 60 seconds for Hornchurch to score their first goal of the new season when Scott Gooding shook off some slack marking by Wayne Diuk and headed past the diving Paul Pettinger to put the home side in front. Kettering struggled against a team determined to avoid a third defeat in-a-row and it was just before the half-time whistle that a slick passing move ended with Ian King equalising for the Poppies.
Despite several chances and a shuffle-round of players by Poppies boss Dominic Genovese, Kettering couldn't find a way past the Urchins' keeper in the second-half and the game ended all square at 1-1 giving Hornchurch their first point of the new campaign.
Genovese declared he was 'happy with an away point' which continued Kettering's unbeaten run over the first three matches. However on this showing his charges will not only need to improve in front of goal but also settle into games a lot quicker to avoid giving away the early advantage.
