Poppies off to a winning start at Stalybridge

Kettering Town kicked-off their Blue Square North campaign with James McKeown in goal and Michael Malcolm and Mark Rawle getting the nod upfront.

A good first 45 minutes for Mark Cooper's players as they went into the half-time break 1-0 up courtesy of a goal from Poppies captain Brett Solkhon latching onto a cross from JP Marna after 28 minutes.

With neither side able to add to the scoreboard in the second period the travelling supporters were the ones left celebrating the opening-day win at the final whistle with a well-organised Poppies side running out narrow 1-0 winners. 3pts in their first match of the season sets the Poppies up nicely for their opening home fixture on Monday night against Hucknall Town.
