Tuesday’s narrow hard fought victory at the league’s bottom outfit was not the best of performances from Kettering Town and they will need to play a lot better in their next two fixtures starting with today’s clash away to the ever-improving King’s Lynn Town.

The match gets underway and the first real opening falls to Aaron O’Connor but the ball bobbled as he was about to shoot and the keeper was able to maker an easy save. Bothe sides battling away for possession in the earlt stages but neither really producing that creativity need to unlock their counterparts defence.

Richens comes close with a long range effort but Kelly-Evans can only scuff his shot into the the arms of the Linnet’s keeper. The half-time whistle comes at the Walks and the best chance was the one that fell to O’Connor but its stalemate at the break.

The second-half gets underway at The Walks. A swap for the Linnets, plenty of back and forth but its a lot of huff and puff and not much quality at the moment. Marriott crashes into the goalkeeper Paul White when he clearly had the ball in his hands but he escapes with a talking o fro the lenient referee.

A second swap for the Linnets just before the hour mark. Hoenes races clear but his shot is deflected and he wins a free-kick out by the corner flag but the ball is cleared. Definitely a little scrappy as King’s Lynn win a corner but it’s headed clear by Cunnington. Poppies make a change as Kelly replaces Milnes.

It’s end to end football but without the last third quality finish that’s needed to break the deadlock. Holman comes on to replace O’Connor for Poppies. Stohrer thought he put Kettering ahead but the shot was somehow kept out with a goal line clearance. The game heats up as a few tackles flying in and several players lucky not to see a red card brandished.

Kettering have been under pressure in the last few minutes as we head into the final 15 minutes of normal time. They’ve defended well though and just needed that little bit of luck up front. Hoenes goes down in the box but the referee waves play on. A free-kick is blasted over the crossbar as White watches on and then the Poppies keeper gets down smartly to stop the ball creeping in the bottom corner.

Full time is about up as Kettering have a free-kick but its wasted and easily cleared. The fourth official signals two minutes of added time on. There goes the final whistle and it ends as it begun, 0-0 a point a piece. Kettering should really have been ahead in the first half but the home side came back in the second and a point is probably fair.
