A tough battling victory away to the 3rd placed team sees Kettering Town all set for the top-of-the-table clash with Stourbridge at Latimer Park on Tuesday night. The two teams are level on points but the Poppies have the goal difference plus have played fewer matches. This fixture will be a good test to see if Kettering have the character and desire to win the title at the end of the season.

The one versus two table clash lived up to it’s billing as the scoreline ebbed to and fro. The visitors took the lead on 20 minutes when Mills put them in front and it took Kettering a little while to respond but they pulled level on 37 minutes through Lindon Meikle and then took a half-time lead courtesy of Michael Richens strike on 40 minutes.

Half-time:   Kettering Town 2   Stourbridge 1

After falling behind before the break, the visitors came out with a renew vigour and pulled level again on the hour mark, again courtesy of Mills. This time it took the Poppies only ten minutes to respond and retake the lead, this time for good, when recent signing Dan Holman made it 3-2. The visitors tried to fight back again but Marcus Kelly’s goal on 89 minutes finally settled the home fans nerves and effectively ended the contest.

A great result for Poppies as they came through what is arguably the toughest test this far against a very good side who no doubt will be up there challenging all season in the title and promotion race.
