A narrow 1-0 win on Saturday saw Kettering Town increase their lead at the top of the table and they host struggling Redditch Utd on Tuesday night at Latimer Park looking to pile on the pressure over the chasing pack. Despite their lowly position Redditch have caused problems in the past for the Poppies who will need to do better than Saturday’s narrow victory performance.

A pulsating game that saw both defences exposed on numerous occasions as the goals flowed in both halves and a very late equaliser that left the visitors with a deserved point and the home fans scratching their heads at how their side could have conceded four goals at home.

A good start saw Kettering take the lead on 14 minutes through O’Connor but were pegged back just four minutes later when Reynolds pulled them back on level terms at 1-1. It took barely another three minutes before the visitors went in front through Batchalor as Kettering were rocked back after conceding the first so shortly after taking the lead.

They settled themselves down and got back on level terms when Kelly-Evans made it 2-2 on the half-hour mark, but again the celebrations were short-lived as the visitors scored again on the stroke of half-time to lead 3-2 courtesy of Bunn.

Half-time:   Kettering Town 2   Redditch Utd 3

The Poppies finally began to get into their rhythm midway through the second-half and on 75 minutes Holman pulled Kettering level at 3-3 and then looked to have wrapped up the points on 81 minutes when he scored his second on the night to give the home side a 4-3 lead. There was one more twist in the tale though as the Poppies defence showed unusual frailty to concede a fourth goal five minutes into time added on as Franklin earned a point for the visitors.

As Kettering were having to settle for a point, second-placed Stourbridge were closing the gap back to 3pts behind Kettering with a narrow 2-1 win at Biggleswade.
