It’s been a rocky two weeks for Kettering Town who were blanked and dumped out the FA Cup in Tuesday night’s replay. That followed being blanked by the Waders the week before and losing their top spot in the league. Today’s visitors Slough Town also took advantage of the Poppies stumble to leap frog them into second spot. Its another test of Kettering’s ability to bounce back after a couple of tough results and Slough will certainly not make it an easy one.

The wind playing its part in a scrappy opening twenty minutes at Latimer Park. Kettering finally beginning to get control of the ball in difficult conditions and half-chances for Howe, O’Connor and Meikle but so far it’s goal-less. White gathers a through ball at one end and Toseland’s ball to Howe is well defended at the other.

Three corners in-a-row for Kettering as they begin to pressure the visitor’s goal but still no clear opportunity on target with the wind playing a part but the Poppies have to get to grips with it. Several good chances for Kettering, first from Stohrer and then from Toseland’s cross but Turner does well to deal with both chances effectively.

Half-time:   Kettering Town 0   Slough Town 0

The second-half underway but the wind still causing havoc with anything that’s not firmly rooted to the pitch. Two substitutions early on, Slough’s Flood looks to have pulled a hamstring and is replaced by Dobson and Milnes is replaced by Willock for Poppies. White saves a good effort on target as the visitors have a decent spell on the ball.

O’Connor has a chance that keeper Turner does well to smother. Richens wins a free-kick but then promptly wastes it by hitting it straight into the wall. Howe has a clear sight of goal but drags his effort wide of the upright. O’Connor doing his best to unlock the Slough defence but Turner is there to thwart the final effort.

A double change for Poppies as Stohrer and Howe are replaced by Stevens and Hoenes for the remaining minutes plus stoppage time. Can Kettering get a winner or will their poor run of results continue. Well its been a very poor day with rain and wind being the dominating factors but both sides have had their chances. A failure to finish has doomed the game to a score-less conclusion, not the result Poppies fans were hoping for.
