Poppies pegged back 2-2 at home to Cobblers – preseason friendlyAug 9th, 2012
Kettering Town 2
Northampton Town 2
Moult 40, 60
Kettering Town host Football League Two near-neighbours Northampton Town at Nene Park on Thursday night with newly appointed chairman Ritchie Jeune watching from the stands.
A fast start from Kettering as they break forward and an overhead kick from Danny Voigt couldn’t quite beat the Cobblers keeper but Jaimie Griffiths is on hand to deftly smash the ball into the net to give the home side the lead with less than 60 seconds on the clock. The home side looking very lively in the opening minutes and could easily have added to their early lead, especially Voigt who just failed to convert from very close in.
Danny Voigt has signed a contract for Kettering but is currently awaiting international clearance and goalkeeper Ben Gathercole has also put pen to paper for the coming season.
A through ball manages to somehow evade the Poppies back line and Louis Moult is on hand to calmly beat keeper Gathercole and bring his side level at 1-1 approaching the half-time break.
Half-time: Kettering Town 1 Northampton Town 1
Second-half gets underway and Kettering on the attack again as Gele Pacome runs through and is one on one with the keeper as the ball rolls slowly across the line and Kettering are back in front at 2-1. Shortly afterwards Pacome is replaced by Samuel Aziz and the multitude of player changes begins for John Beck.
Another through ball from the visitors finds Louis Moult on the edge of the area as he looks up and lobs the onrushing Poppies keeper Gathercole, finding the back of the net to bring the Cobblers back on level terms again at 2-2 close to the hour mark.
Several half-chances but no further score and the match finished honours even at 2-2.
