Kettering Town host Southend Manor in the first of their preseason friendlies with new manager John Beck trying to concentrate on the on-field side and put together a squad for the start of the season just over a month away. The club only had a handful of players signed and Beck will need to bring in virtually a whole new team for the new season in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier which kicks-off on August 18th.

A last gasp winner for Kettering as a Chris Hughes strike just managed to squirm under the diving outstretched palm of the Manor keeper and into the bottom corner of the net in the 89th minute. A decent match with the home side perhaps just shading it on chances, but it was of course more important for Poppies boss Beck and his assistant Dean Greygoose to be able to assess the individual performances rather than the result.
